Needham Market FC awarded generous funding for new floodlit all-weather pitch
Needham Market FC have been awarded £473,792 by the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund for a new state-of-the-art new third generation artificial grass pitch. Below is a press release from the Football Foundation detailing the grant.
Grassroots sport in Suffolk is set to benefit from a major cash injection following the news that Needham Market FC have been awarded a grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, towards installing a brand new all-weather pitch.
The grant will enable Needham Market FC to provide its players with a state-of-the-art new third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch (AGP). This will replace their existing grass practice pitch, enabling them to train and hold fixtures all-year-round – even during bad weather in the winter months.
This will also benefit Needham Market Academy who will use the new pitch, providing a great environment for players to develop. Local junior teams will also use the site as a training venue, with the Suffolk FA and Suffolk County Schools’ FA benefiting from the facility as well.
The club has been awarded a grant of £473,792 by the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund which will make the new pitch possible.
The Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund is funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government, via Sport England. It is delivered by the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 15,000 grants worth nearly £580m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of just under £800m – over £1.4bn of investment into the grassroots game.
By providing more high-quality facilities, coupled with coaching at the appropriate age group, the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund aims to improve the experience for regular players as well as attracting new players to the game. Many of the new state-of-the-art facilities will serve to strengthen the connection between professional football clubs and their local communities, particularly in the most deprived areas of the country, through the professional clubs’ community trusts’ outreach work.
Robert Peace, Needham Market Operations and Academy Director, said: “This is fantastic news for Needham Market FC and the wider community, we have worked hard over the last year and are delighted that our application to the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund has been successful. The new facility will take the club and our Academy to the next level and enable the community to play more football and different formats of the game to be introduced. There is a large demand for a floodlit 3G AGP in Mid Suffolk and the new site at Needham Market FC will satisfy this demand.”
Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “It is fantastic news for Needham Market FC to have been awarded a grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund to develop a new floodlit 3G AGP. Since 2000, the Foundation has awarded 145 grants worth over £7m across Suffolk, towards grassroots sports projects worth £16.1m. This latest project, in Needham Market, will have a great impact on the local community by opening up access to our national game and improving the quality of sporting experience they enjoy at the enhanced facilities. It has been made possible by investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government, via Sport England.”
