Needham Market Academy graduate Jake Dye makes 100th appearance for Needham Market FC
Last week Jake Dye made his 100th appearance for Needham Market FC first team. Jake is one of the beacons for Needham Market Academy, rising through the ranks and taking opportunities and maximising his potential. Jake joined the Academy after playing local Saturday and Sunday morning league football. Jake said "I never thought I would be making 100 appearances for the first team, let alone at the age of 19. I am extremely proud of myself and all the hard work I put in to gain this achievement. On top of this, thankful for all the people that helped and encouraged me along the way. Whether it be coaches, first team players or supporters."
Jake's first appearance was at the age of 16 in a league cup game against Leiston. After this appearance Jake made several substitute appearances for the first team that season and he feels that was a great experience "As much as I wanted to play, it was very much beneficial on improving. To be around the boys, to learn off them and receive advice was great." Jake feels the Academy was a huge part of his success, training four times a week, as well as playing for the reserves and U18's, "Under the influence and supervision of Kevin Horlock, was just unreal. It certainly improved my technique and everything about my game."
Jake also made special reference to previous first team manager Mark Morsley "Mark was the other main part to my success, for having the faith and trust in me to play in the Ryman Premier Division" and Jake concluded by saying "My game is continuing to improve under the current first team management who have also aided my improvements, and I hope I can gain more milestones at this unbelievable club."
Further success to Jake's story is that he has recently completed his level 3 NVQ qualification in Supporting Physical Education & School Sport (PESS) through Needham Market Academy. Jake currently coaches for Anglia Sports Management (ASM), delivering School Sport and PPA within schools in the Suffolk and Essex area. Needham Market Operations & Academy Director, Robert Peace said "I am delighted for Jake reaching this milestone, he should be very proud of himself and the work he has put in both on and off the pitch. He represents what the Academy stands for in providing an opportunity and environment for young players to develop. He has combined the practical and theory elements together, resulting in him succeeding with the first team at Needham Market FC and professionally with his coaching role in local schools."
